Kent grew up in Skelleftehamn where his father was the Bandmaster of the Salvation Army band. Kent soon became principal cornet with the band, and performed most of the Salvation Army´s solo cornet repertoire whilst still relatively young.
Kenst studied the trumpet at Framnäs College in Piteå and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. During this time he was both principal cornet and deputy band master in the Vasa music corps. He also played principal and soprano cornet with Solna Brass.
After his studies, Kent returned to Skelleftehamn to take up the position of bandmaster for the SA band. In 1983 Kent was appointed principal trumpet of The Royal Stockholm Opera, taking over after his teacher Göran Åkerstedt. He is also the trumpet teacher att Örebro´s College of Music.
Kent has made regular apperances as guest conductor with Gothenburg´s brass band and Oslo 1. He has been principal conductor for Jelöy High School brass band course and has conducted Solna Brass. He frequently appears as a solist with a variety of brass bands, but conducting is taking up more and more of his time!
Kent has beedn The Stockholm Brass Band´s conductor since 2006.
